The moment you’ve been waiting for

before they can read words, they can read Jack.

You’ve been waiting for the moment your little one picks up a book and reads it, really reads it, all by themselves. That moment is closer than you think. Jack is specially designed so that even the youngest preschooler can look at every page and “read” the story on their own. No frustration. Just pure pride and joy.

Because the very first time a child feels like a reader, they want to feel it again. And again. And again.

Why Jack works

simple. joyful. impossible to put down.

Five reasons a toddler’s first book should be this one, from a teacher who spent her career on first readers.

A toddler’s small hands hold a thick white board book, its chunky rounded pages seen side-on against an orange backdrop
  1. 1

    Readable from page one

Designed so that even a child with no reading skills yet can follow along and tell the whole story themselves. Confidence from the very first page.

  2. 2

    A character they'll love instantly

Jack is a real pug with a real personality: goofy, lovable, and always up to something. Kids connect with him on sight.

  3. 3

    Illustrations that tell the story

Robyn Trimboli-Russo's watercolor art is so expressive, children understand exactly what Jack is thinking and feeling without a single word.

  4. 4

    A read-again-and-again book

Kids will ask for it at bedtime, at breakfast, in the car. Every time they read it, they get to feel like a reader again.

  5. 5

    Board book built to last

Thick, sturdy pages made for little hands. It can handle everything a toddler throws at it (and Jack has probably chewed worse).

Meet Jack

a real pug, a real family, and a lot of missing shoes.

Jack is the mischievous pug who steals shoes and every little reader’s heart. He is a real pug with a real personality: goofy, lovable, and always up to something.

Donna and her daughter Elena share a wonderful bond formed through the gift of adoption. The stories of Jack are based on the hilarious real-life adventures of their forever family, which is why kids connect with him on sight.

  • Robyn Trimboli-Russo’s watercolors tell the story, page by page
  • A story a child can tell from the pictures alone
  • Thick board pages that survive toddlers (and pugs)

The author

made for first‑time readers, by a veteran literacy intervention teacher.

Donna Vona, M.Ed., became concerned by how many of her students reached third grade without the early literacy skills they needed. After five years of intensive study with an early literacy expert, she set out to write books that make a first reading moment simple for parents to give.

Then her three-year-old daughter wanted to read, and her preschool would not teach her. So Elena begged:

“teach me to read, Mom!”

Her watercolor art carries the story. Jack’s face says what he is thinking and feeling, so a child can follow every page without a single word.

  • “She sat down and ‘read’ the whole thing to her stuffed animals.”
  • “My granddaughter read it to ME. Three times in a row.”
  • “I ordered a copy for every classroom.”
  • “Fourteen. I know because I counted.”
  • “How to read, and more than that, how to dream.”

real reactions from real readers.

A silver-haired grandmother laughs on the floor with a toddler on her lap who holds up a board book

“I bought this for my 3-year-old and she immediately sat down and ‘read’ the whole thing to her stuffed animals. I’ve never seen her so proud of herself.”

Sarah M.mom of two

“As a preschool teacher, I’m always looking for books that give every child a chance to feel successful. Jack does that in the very first sitting. I ordered a copy for every classroom.”

Mrs. T.preschool educator

“My grandson asked me to read Jack 14 times this weekend. Fourteen. I know because I counted. Well worth it.”

Grandma Lindagrandmother

“You have taught us how to read, and more than that, how to dream. It is like you have performed a miracle!”

What ages is Jack for?

Ages 2 to 4 to read along, and 4 to 6 as a first early reader. Younger children tell the story from the pictures; older ones enjoy reading it back to you on their own. The thick board pages are made for little hands either way.

What does “reading” mean for a 3-year-old?

At three, reading along means looking at each page and telling what happens, with the pictures carrying the story. That is a real first step: a child who feels like a reader wants to feel it again. Sounding out words comes later, and the five-vowel set is being written for that stage.

Where does Jack ship from?

Every order is packed and shipped from New Jersey by the family that wrote the book. Shipping for a single Jack is added at checkout. The Gift Trio and Class 10-pack are planned with free shipping.

Is Jack on Amazon?

An Amazon listing is on the way. Ordering here comes straight from the author, and it is where the Gift Trio and Class 10-pack will live.

Can you gift wrap it?

Gift wrap is not offered at checkout yet. Sending Jack as a present? Ship it straight to the child’s address and add a note with your order.
